The EVCN hosted its new-format Fireside chat on Tuesday night, 2 July 2013.  The event was held at a private room in Milk and Honey which is an intimate venue in Soho, London.

Simon Guild talked to us about his experiences from his years as CEO of MTV Europe as well as his non-executive roles at some of Europe’s most successful VC backed companies including Bigpoint, Xing and Spreadshirt.  Simon also has a portfolio of private investments.

Simon‘s wide range of experiences have included many successes but a few tough cases as well.  We all took away some excellent and entertaining advice which can be applied to our own portfolios.

  • Don’t shoot the founder (at least, not immediately), work with him/her;
  • Identify leadership and management issues and be open about them;
  • Watch customer and competitor behaviour like a hawk;
  • Realise that sometimes you are trying to achieve the impossible.

Thanks for joining us, Simon.

The event was oversubscribed this time so for those of you who we couldn’t fit in this time and missed out, we will have another talk in September.
